General Information About Cytogenetics Laboratory

The cytogenetic laboratory established within Ege University Faculty of Medicine,Department of Medical Genetics provides routine services for karyotype analysis from all samples.  Our laboratory offers services all over Turkey.

Chromosome disorders form a major category of genetic disease. In a clinical setting, chromosome abnormalities account for a large proportion of patients with congenital malformations, intellectual disability, and infertility or recurrent pregnancy loss. For patients with hematologic or oncologic malignancies, cytogenetic testing plays a key role in the diagnosis, prognosis, and selection and monitoring of treatment.

  5. Products of conception
  6. Bone marrow
  7. Solid tumor and tissues samples

Requisition a test

The doctors of the relevant policlinics of our hospital are entered into the HBYS (Hastane Bilgi Yönetim Sistemi) and made a request with the examination name or examination code. In order to ensure that the tests are performed in a timely manner, the test entries must be made in full. The test should not be added after the test entries have been confirmed.

Admission of the samples

Samples are accepted by the relevant person at the “ Material Acceptance-Result ”table on the right side of the entrance of the Department of Medical Genetics. Our laboratory is open on weekdays between 8:00 and 17:00. After 17:00, the work continues as requirement. Our laboratory is closed at the weekend and service can be provided in case of emergency conditions.

If there is a test sample accepted by appointment (such as bone marrow, DEB test, FISH analysis, etc.), an appointment is made on the appropriate date. Appropriate material of the patient is accepted on the day of appointment.
